How to Assemble a Track-Mounted Closet Shelf System

1. Position the top of the hang track on the wall. It should be level and mounted where you want the top of the unit to be. Most people choose to mount the highest shelf 85-1/2 inches from the floor and the hang track about 6 inches higher. Drive screws through the hang track and drywall into the wall studs. Be sure to mount the track securely--it will carry most of the system's loaded weight.

2. Lock the first shelf standard onto the hang track, centered over the location of a wall stud. Check it with a level for plumb, and then screw through the center of the track into the stud. Add additional standards, using the same methods. Space the standards no more than 24 inches apart; place the two at the sides no more than 4 inches from where the ends of the shelves will be.

3. Insert the shelf brackets into the tracks. Count down the number of slots from the top of the standards to be sure the brackets for each shelf are level with each other.

4. Lock the wire shelves onto each set of the shelf brackets. If your system includes hanger bars, add the supports for them to the fronts of the shelves.

5. Use a level to make sure the shelf standards are perfectly plumb, and then attach the standards to the wall with additional screws. To finish the system, add end caps to every wire at both ends of the shelving unit and to the hanger track.
