When you obtain a permit for your remodel, your building department can tell you what inspections you will need and when they should be done. Some tasks require more than one inspection.
Electrical work, for example, is inspected when circuits are roughed in; again when changes to the electrical service are completed; and finally when all appliances and devices have been installed, grounded, and energized. Inspectors will look for the following things when they visit your work site:
A copy of the building permit, posted where it can be seen easily.
A record of all inspections that have been completed, with inspectors' signatures included.
Proof that mechanical equipment such as wiring and pipes were installed by certified professionals.
Compliance with local codes, including safety and zoning codes. Obtain copies of all relevant ordinances from your local building department.
