Cheer Up Your Home with Light

The Winter Doldrums. It’s that time of year when bad weather can trap us in the house and short daylight hours can dampen our spirits.

To brighten your mood–and your house–consider improving your home’s lighting. As proven by a number of studies, notably in regions with extremely abbreviated daylight hours, light can make a big difference in how we feel. So think about adding lamps and light fixtures to brighten dark areas and gloomy spirits. And, when natural light is available, flood your home with it.

Begin by checking out the free HomeTips Light Fixtures Buying Guide. Also see more about effective ways to use lighting in your home at Light Fixtures. From here, you can also explore a variety of lighting-related subjects.

And last, but not least, here are two excellent books that can help you take the next step toward improving your home with light:

Designing With Light: The Creative Touch, by Carol Soucek King.

The Art of Illumination, Residential Lighting Design, by Glenn M. Johnson.
