How to fix a Clogged Clothes Dryer Exhaust

One of the most common problems with laundry clothes dryers is accumulation of lint and debris in the exhaust hose. This causes the dryer to not dry laundry effectively, or seem to take forever to work. Fortunately, this is a very easy DIY repair project!

First, pull your dryer out, away from the wall so you have room to work behind it. Use a screwdriver to loosen the hose clamp holding the vent hose from the dryer.

Remove the hose and inspect it for lint accumulations. Lint can collect at the exit hole of the dryer, the mouth of the hose, or even farther down inside the hose, where it had been kinked during installation. Unscrew the hose from the wall vent, take the hose outside and shake it out.

If the problem doesn't seem to be fixed, the lint blockage may be on the outside. Find where the exterior vent is located and pull out any blockages you find. Also see HomeTips' FREE guide to Clothes Dryer Troubleshooting & Repairs.
