Using some simple lines and plumbing symbols, you can make a good working drawing of your plumbing system. Such a drawing or map can save you a lot of time, whether you plan to add a fixture, plumb a house addition, or troubleshoot a problem.
The so-called 'riser' drawing, a two-dimensional elevation, is adequate for sketching a small run of supply pipes. An isometric drawing (shown below left), which is laid out on isometric graph paper or by using a 30-60-90'degree triangle, can render more complex drain-waste-vent systems. Use a traditional plan drawing (shown below right) to help you place new or existing fixtures inside a room.
