Installing a garbage disposal yourself is easy. All you need are a few basic tools and parts.

1. Apply plumber's putty to the garbage disposal's metal flange in the sink basin and press down firmly in place. 2. Under the sink, apply the mounting collar and seal ring as per manufacturer's directions.

3. If you are connecting the garbage disposal to a dishwasher, you will need to knock out the plug on the disposal where the dishwasher discharge hose connection will go.

4. Attach the garbage disposal to the mounting collar on the bottom of the sink as per the manufacturer's directions. See also: Attaching a dishwasher to the garbage disposal.
