Audio Jacks

By +Don Vandervort, HomeTips

The type of jack you will require for your audio equipment depends on your type of speakers and amplifier. The most common are:

* Binding posts. Often found on sophisticated speakers and most amplifiers, these are threaded for an exceptionally secure connection; a “five-way” binding post accepts bare wire, pin or spade connectors, and banana or double-banana plugs.

* RCA jacks. So-called because they were invented by the Radio Corporation of America, these accept multiple cables that plug into the amplifier.

* Banana jacks. When paired with a banana plug, this single-wire connector hooks up the amplifier to the speakers.
