Expert Advice for Home Improvement & DIY Repair
Hidden Mold & Testing

You may suspect hidden mold if an area of your home smells moldy but you cannot see the source, you know there has been water damage, or family members are experiencing health problems.

Mold can be hidden in such places as the backside of drywall, wallpaper, or paneling; the topside of ceiling tiles; or the underside of carpeting and pads. Other possible locations of hidden mold include areas inside walls around leaking or condensing pipes, the surface of walls behind furniture where condensation has formed, inside ductwork, and in leaking or insufficiently insulated roofing materials above ceiling tiles.

Investigating hidden mold problems may be difficult and require caution when the process involves disturbing potential sites of mold growth. For example, stripping off wallpaper can lead to a massive release of spores if there is mold growing on the underside.

If you believe you may have a hidden mold problem, consider hiring an experienced professional.
