How to Paint With a Paintbrush

Certain professionals and amateurs alike prefer painting only with brushes, no matter how large the surface.

While the finish generally turns out less porous and textured than one produced by a roller, painting with a brush takes much more time.

A more common and much faster practice is “cutting in”—painting out from corners a few inches with a brush—leaving the rest of the area to be rolled. Brushes should always be used for trim and be sized according to the width of the trim.

if you are painting an area that requires more than one can of paint, it’s advisable to work from paint poured into a bucket. By doing this, you can combine the paints from two or more cans to eliminate any slight variations in color.
