About this item
- QUALITY AIRFLOW - Tamarack Technologies’ remote-controlled HV1600 Whole House Fan allows you to avoid using your AC when the outdoor air is cooler than the indoor air. The attic exhaust fan pushes hot air, indoor air pollutants, allergens, moisture and odors out through attic vents or gables while pulling cool, fresh air naturally cooling your home and improving the indoor air quality.
- SELF-SEALING DESIGN - The attic fan includes R38 insulated doors that open automatically when the fan is operating and seal shut automatically when the fan is off. The insulated door design prevents cool air from escaping your living area to the attic.
- COST-EFFICIENT - Our whole house fans for home have insulated doors that prevent heat loss through the attic during the cooler months. Installing a Tamarack Whole House Fan reduces energy consumption and saves money. Our household ventilation fans use only 10% of energy a central air conditioning system uses and reduces your energy bill.
- LONG-LASTING AND MADE IN USA - Made with durable metal material, this quiet cool whole house fan is covered by a lifetime manufacturer's warranty. The insulated door design prevents cool air from escaping your living area to the attic.
- EASY INSTALLATION - The attic ventilation fan can be easily mounted horizontally or vertically in the attic on 16 or 24 inch center joists. Includes 2 remote controls. Our HV1600 has been featured twice on the popular home improvement show “Ask This Old House.”

Product Description
The Tamarack Technologies, Inc. HV1600 R38 Whole House Fan easily mounts in the attic on 16 or 24 inch on center joists. The attic fan can be mounted horizontally or vertically. This 1600 CFM* whole house attic fan quickly circulates air and cools your home whenever the outdoor air is cooler than the indoor air. The whole house fan operates at two speeds to push hot air, indoor air pollutants, allergens, moisture and odors out through attic vents or gables while pulling cool, fresh air into the home through the open windows. The air exchange naturally cools your home and can improve the indoor air quality. Like all Tamarack Technologies HV Series Whole House Fans, the HV1600 R38 features a unique self sealing door design. The unit includes R38 insulated doors that open automatically when the fan is operating and seal shut automatically when the fan is off, preventing cool air from escaping from your living area to the attic. The insulated doors also prevent heat loss through the attic during the cooler months. Installing an HV1600 R38 Whole House Fan reduces energy consumption and saves money because our fans use 10% of the energy of a central air conditioning system. Because the quiet cool whole house fan cools the home, it also reduces the amount of energy your air conditioner uses, reducing your energy bill. Based on the quality of this product and ease of installation, the HV1600 has been featured twice on the popular home improvement show “Ask This Old House”.

Would not recommend it if you are looking for little to no impact on on back ground noise.
I keep up on things and saw the Tamarack a few years ago, but balked at the price. It is amazing how our perceptions and priorities change over time. My wife has MS, and heat/humidity is her enemy. I have arthritis and an old golf injury. I also have replaced kid raising with young adult raising. I now find practicality and wisdom dominate my decision making processes. A new look at the Tamarack and a week of higher than normal heat made this an easy call. Luckily, I did not view Amazon reviews first, which is pretty rare for me. We have central ac in our attic, and our perimeter walls are blown in foam. Our house heats slowly, but also cools slowly if it gets hot. I opted for the R50 1600 model, at $937/free shipping from Tamarack. I worked hard all day on replacing my fascia over the garage door in 90 degrees. The fan arrived about 5pm. I decided it would be functional by 10pm. And it was. The install, even with the inevitable unplanned things, was easier than the first 3, mostly due to ease of wiring. This unit just plugs in and is controlled with a radio remote. So building the box was most of the work. I had a spot from the prior installation, so I just needed to make it smaller and remove the drywall. My pasload framing nailer quit on me, so I used screws.
The fan moves plenty of air, although less than the 30" unit. It is quieter, even on high. I am still "planning" on addressing the need for bedroom doors to be open. The remote did not work from our bed, about 45 feet away. It did work at the foot of the bed. I plan on adding 2 single pole swithes for on/off and speed, in case the remote fails.
I cannot say what the reliability will be. I feel that if this unit works for 3 years with no problems, that amounts to about $300/yr for the function and convenience. I find this minimally acceptable. Anything over that is gravy. It has a 3 yr. warranty. We shall see. I am guessing the insulated doors would be the weak spot. As a lifelong electronics tech, I expect the mechanical components will likely fail first. The fans should go forever, in my opinion. Think computer cooling fans, without the heat problem. If you keep them clean, there should be no problem. Again, we shall see. Finally, I concede my 5 star rating may be due in part to my extensive electrical/mechanical experience, 56 years of life experience, and a generally positive attitude. One thing you can count on: I have absolutely no bias toward the product. I simply want my problem solved efficiently and in a cost effective way. Respectfully submitted for your consideration.
