Product Description
Product Description
Master Lock 2300D pen oiler lock lubricant with PTFE. Over time, airborne dust, dirt, and chemicals can settle on and in locks and create friction inside the precision locking and keying components, thus interfering with the function. Locks must be maintained to keep them functioning properly and lengthen the product life. This is the ideal lubricant formulated specifically for locks. What is PTFE? PTFE is the acronym for Polytetrafluoroethylene, which is the most slippery material known to science today. All surfaces have microscopic irregularities, which create friction when rubbed against each other. The introduction of PTFE into these irregularities smoothes out the surfaces, reducing the wear and sticking that friction causes. The most familiar name of PTFE is Teflon, which is the registered trademark for DuPont’s non-stick cookware. Where can the new lock lubricant be used? Everywhere. This formulation is ideal for padlocks, door locks, automotive, marine, and multipurpose applications. The 2300D pen oiler is convenient for consumers and can easily be applied to keyways or shackle holes.

At first we feared that the lock had simply worn out, and we began shopping for a replacement. But some sources suggested it might just need lubrication. Hmm, what kind?
It’s a royal pain shopping for lock lubricants. Years ago I used WD-40 on some padlocks outdoors, and it needed to be reapplied often because the locks would rust up again. And I would not use WD-40 in the living space, anyway. Instead it came down to PTFE (Teflon), silicon or graphite.
I’d used graphite before on entry locks, and I found it to be messy while not really helping enough. I’d also used silicon on other things in the past, and ruled that out. After settling on PTFE, I decided against an aerosol because I wanted to avoid issues with overspray, etc.
Well, you can only apply this as droplets, and for a front door, you do not have the help of gravity. So you need to apply some to the keyhole, and shove that in with the key; and/or put some on the key itself. Either way, you need the key to spread it around to the mechanism inside. I did this repeatedly, with lots of fluid, because it seems so inefficient.
It’s tricky to do, and at first I regretted choosing this over a spray. But the lock did loosen up, and although the key was a covered with fluid at first, the lock has not given us problems since then.
Not sure I’d choose this form again, over a spray. But it worked, and it is easier to store than a spray can (and no worry about propellants, etc.) So I am satisfied and would recommend it to others who have similar needs.
I bought my little tube in 2015 (yes, almost 4 years ago), and I've been using this occasionally over the years, more as a preventative measure than anything else.
Yesterday's events have encouraged me, however, to write a positive review for it.
A Master lock on my property has been locked outside in the South Florida elements for at least several years, and during that time, not only did it go through Hurricane Irma, but it never got used (i.e. unlocked).
Yesterday I needed to finally unlock it, and just as I feared, it was rusted shut. Although the key went in, it wouldn't turn a bit. I didn't want to wait, and I really didn't want to shell out $$$ and buy a bolt cutter, so I did some research, and went back there again with this little tube and a hammer. Greased up the holes, waited, banged the lock, jiggled key in lock. Repeated several times, and voila! it worked. The lock still isn't working buttery smooth, but who cares, I got it off.
Don't know what's in this lubricant exactly, but it sure loosened up the rusty insides of my Master Lock, giving me access and saving me $.
The lubricant i have is actually so old now that it's not even that runny, and the label is cracking too, but it still worked like a charm, and really proved itself too. :-D
So,I'm here to buy another tube after yesterday's events, and although $5 for this little thing sounds expensive, for me that has worked out to be $1.25 a year on 3-4 padlocks, for saving me a lot of backyard sweating and cussing (which I do enough anyway), and emergency trips to the local home improvement store, so it's worth it!
Also, I don't know if regular corn oil would have worked just as well, but this lubricant specially made for locks claims it has "PTFE" so I dont want to use regular cooking oil or WD-40 and ruin perfectly good locks or make a bad situation worse.
That's a picture of my old lubricant, the lock which came off with its help, and the q-tips I'm using to clean out its insides, showing all the rust.
Recommend.

Long story long, this lube is fantastic! Works like a charm! Its format is really like a pen - although more like one of those old clear glue sticks. I squeezed a drop or two on either side of my door key, and placed a couple of drops on the lock entrance itself. Then I inserted the key, turned it back and forth a few times to work it in - and presto! The lock has returned to its former smooth un-locking magic!
Now, as fun as this review was to write, and as happy as I was to fix this problem, I have placed the cap on this lube pen, placed it in my junk drawer, and hope I don't have to think about this for at least a year or so! And here's hoping the same for you!
