When water backs up and pools at a basement floor drain, the drain trap, floor drain line, or sewer line is blocked. In most cases, you should call a plumber or drain-clearing service.

Some floor drains have a cleanout plug beneath the drain cover that allows an auger to bypass the trap. If yours does, remove the plug and snake out the line.
